(CI-Guyana) with support from the Global Environmental Facility (GEF) is collaborating to execute a project titled “GGDMA Responsible Mining Project”. Government And GGDMA Join Forces To Test Improved Recovery System For Increasing Efficiency And Productivity In The Mining Sector

The Guyana Gold and Diamond Miners Association (GGDMA) continues to explore technologies to increase mineral recovery while reducing mercury use for local small and medium scale miners. To this effect the GGDMA and the Ministry of Natural Resources have signed an agreement for the acquisition of mineral processing technology that can increase recovery and ultimately reduce the use of mercury. The “Riven Mineral Recovery System “will be pilot tested for the next 12 months in Guyana’s mining sector. This project is part of the GGDMA’s commitment to exploring and finding effective and feasible technology solutions to improve recovery and effectiveness which will ultimately lead to a reduction of the use of mercury in Small and Medium Scale (SMS) mining operations.

GGDMA calls upon truck operators and trucking services to stop overloading their trucks. Gold and Diamond mining continues to be one of the main economic driver of development in Guyana and safe, reliable and efficient passenger and cargo services are critical to the success of mining operations.

The GGDMA, therefore wishes to call upon the service providers to make a concerted effort to further improve their overall service. We call upon truck operators and trucking services to stop overloading their trucks. This is critical especially in the rainy season.

Miners Pleased With Major Tax Incentives For Mining Sector

The Guyana Gold and Diamond Miners Association (GGDMA) hails Tuesday’s consultations with Vice-President Bharrat Jagdeo as a major success and compliments the government for keeping its campaign promises.
The GGDMA welcomes, in particular, the government’s move to reduce the Final Taxon income from gold produced, declared, and sold. Currently, the tax is 3.5 percent; however, it will be reduced to 2.5 percent.
The abolishment of this tax will benefit the personnel working within the various mining operations throughout the country as larger disposable incomes will allow them to better support their families during this time of rising prices. Managers and owners of mining operations welcome this move as it will create a more level playing field for recruitment and retention of quality personnel.
