VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT: JUNIOR GEOLOGIST

The Guyana Gold and Diamond Miners Association (GGDMA) is seeking applications from suitable qualify persons to fill the post of JUNIOR GEOLOGIST to serve within its Technical Services Unit (TSU). Details of the Job Description and required qualifications is provided below.

Position Title: Junior Geologist

Location: Based in Georgetown, with field work being done at various interior locations.

Roles & Responsibilities:
I. ACCOUNTABILITY OBJECTIVE:
Responsible for executing technical assistance programs to improve efficiency in exploration/prospecting and mineral recovery for the local small and medium scale mining industry of Guyana.

II. DIMENSIONS OF POSITION:

NATURE AND SCOPE OF THE POSITION:

The JUNIOR GEOLOGIST is responsible for promoting appropriate or best prospecting/exploration methods/techniques to small and medium scale operators and for undertaking technical assistance programs for improving exploration.

The applicant must advise on general mining and mineral exploration policy and matters relating to exploration and prospecting of ores and minerals to identify lucrative mineral deposits.

The JUNIOR GEOLOGIST is required to conduct research work, conduct field trips and special projects to scientifically evaluate (by way of testing and demonstration) best or appropriate exploration methods for improved mineral discovery and compile scientific or technical field reports to provide feedback to the Manager of the TSU.

The applicant is required to report and promote by way of advice, education and sensitization best exploration methods or practices. The applicant is required to document and maintain quality-control records to achieve the overall objectives of the TSU.

The applicant is required to collaborate with the pertinent stakeholders such as the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC) Mineral Processing Unit (MPU) in investigating and promoting best and or appropriate exploration methods and techniques to increase efficiency in mineral exploration and extraction.

111. JUNIOR GEOLOGIST POSITION DESCRIPTION

FACTORS SUBSTANTIATING DATA
EDUCATION Degree in Geology/Geological Engineering/Mineralogy from a recognized University or School of Mines.
EXPERIENCE/JOB KNOWLEDGE A Qualified individual with a minimum of 2 years’ working experience in a related field of work.
SUPERVISION The applicant must be able to work unsupervised or with limited supervision and be able to supervise casuals in the field.
PROCEDURES The applicant must be able to collect, analyze and manage mineral data using agreed methodologies, procedures and analytical techniques.
QUALITY OF WORK/

PRODUCTIVITY

The applicant must work diligently, he or she should be consistent and persistent in producing high quality work.
RESPONSIBILITY FOR MATERIALS, CASH, ETC. The applicant must display care and caution for the GGDMA properties. He or she must use and maintain the materials and equipment of the GGDMA and must report any damages and or malfunctioning found.
TECHNICAL/

PROFESSIONAL

The applicant must conduct his or her self in a professional manner and take responsibilities for his or her actions. He or she will be required to prepare estimates for field and special projects; plans, and execute field projects, provide feedback to GGDMA management and the manager of the TSU and follow up action with recommendations for miners.
ANALYTICAL The applicant must display Creativity and Innovation. He or she will undertake research and conduct analysis to advice on best mining practices for increase mineral discovery.
