GGDMA Condemns The Recent Unparliamentary Behavior

(2021/12/30) -The Guyana Gold and Diamond Miners Association (GGDMA) condemns the unparliamentary behavior that played out in the National Assembly last evening. The GGDMA calls on politicians to put Guyana first and to work together in a peaceful and dignified manner in keeping which the expectation of the citizenry. Democracy and a respect for the rule of law must become the hallmarks on which a growing Guyana must be built. The nation is still reeling and is yet to fully recover from the undemocratic attempts to hold on to power in 2020.We must guard against slipping into that pit again. The Guyana Gold and Diamond Miners Association condemns the blatant and vulgar attempts to subvert democracy.

The Emergency Budget – A shot of Adrenaline for Guyana’s Economy!

The Guyana Gold and Diamond Miners Association (GGDMA) welcomes the relief measures announced by the government on Monday in its emergency budget.

Specifically, among the measures which will lend to the development and sustaining of the mining sector are: tax concessions for recapitalization, reversal of Value Added Tax (VAT) on
heavy duty equipment/machines, the abrogation of certain unnecessarily burdensome requirements related to the licensing of equipment and the transportation of fuel as well as
hinterland infrastructural development.

Illegal border crossings and poor border control main cause for the spike in Covid-19 cases in specific mining areas.

The Guyana Gold and Diamond Miners Association (GGDMA) is alarmed by the recent upsurge in the number of cases of Coronavirus in certain mining areas. The GGDMA has recognised that most of the cases can be traced and are connected to illegal cross border activity at mining landings and areas where miners dwell. These cases have been linked and traced to itinerant workers who are not directly involved or associated with mining or specific operations. Read more

The Guyana Gold and Diamond Miners Association (GGDMA), within the last two months, has provided over $10 Million dollars’ worth of donations and other relief efforts to various communities and organizations.
