Govt wants all Guyanese to tap into mining wealth

GGDMA & GGMC object to Amerindian land extensions

The Guyana Gold and Diamond Miners Association (GGDMA) on Wednesday lodged a formal letter of protest with the UNDP in relation to the extension of Amerindian lands and announced that it is exploring its legal options to address the issue. GGDMA concerned about police action in Linden

The Guyana Gold and Diamond Miners Association (GGDMA) on Saturday expressed concern about the actions of the police in Linden which resulted in the killing of three persons protesting against an increase in electricity tariff in the mining community. The Association in a release said that it was “greatly perturbed” at the events which led to the loss of life, damage to property and the general state of unease in Linden. The GGDMA is also deeply disturbed by the use of deadly force by the Guyana Police Force,” the release read. Read more

GGDMA approve no confidence vote in Natural Resources Minister

Gold and diamond miners on Tuesday approved a vote of no-confidence in Natural Resources and the Environment Minister, Robert Persaud for his  management of the mining sector. The Guyana Gold and Diamond Miners Association (GGDMA) also received cash and pledges on the spot so far totalling GUY$3.3 million to fund a mobilisation campaign against the decision by authorities to cease processing new river claims.
